Offshore wind can’t win

Maryland is a great source for offshore wind development in the United States. The key is getting legislation passed that clarifies long-term projections of development. Criticism continues for the risks and costs associated with such large projects. Gaps have to be filled so that Gov. O’Malley can present a detailed argument about the need for offshore wind development now.

Offshore wind energy will conserve the nation’s energy resources by recycling even more fresh air to flush out the toxins from other energy sources. It will also help Maryland reach its goal of using 20 percent or more renewable sources by 2022.

The governor’s Offshore Wind Energy Act of 2011 calls for public utilities to leverage offshore wind resources by entering long-term contracts. This allows more wind facilitation for the state’s energy grid.
